Best Hotels in Pokhara — Lakeside & Beyond

Pokhara is where Nepal slows down. After the dust and traffic of Kathmandu, the lakeside city feels like an exhale — and choosing the right hotel here shapes your whole stay. Here's how the neighbourhoods compare and what to look for in each.

Lakeside — The Classic Choice

Lakeside (Baidam) runs along the eastern shore of Phewa Lake and is where the vast majority of travellers stay. The strip is split informally into:

  • Central Lakeside — restaurants, bars and shops at your doorstep. Liveliest, and noisiest on weekends.
  • North Lakeside (Khahare) — quieter, more local, popular with long-stay travellers and yoga retreats. The lake views get better the further north you go.
  • Damside (Pardi) — south of centre, calmer again, with views across the water to the World Peace Pagoda.

Mid-range hotels here typically offer rooftop terraces facing Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) — on a clear morning, the mountain fills the sky. Ask specifically for a mountain-view room on an upper floor; the difference from a courtyard-facing room is enormous.

Sarangkot — For the Views

The village of Sarangkot sits on a ridge 700 m above the city and is famous for sunrise over the Annapurna range. A handful of resorts up here cater to travellers who prioritise panorama over convenience. You'll need taxis to get into town, but waking up to Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu turning pink — without leaving your bed — is hard to beat.

What to Expect by Budget

| Budget (per night) | What you get | | --- | --- | | Under NPR 2,500 | Clean guesthouse, fan, hot shower, often a garden | | NPR 2,500–8,000 | Boutique hotel, AC, rooftop terrace, breakfast included | | NPR 8,000+ | Resort with pool, lake or mountain panorama, spa |

When to Book Ahead

Pokhara fills up during October–November (peak trekking season, plus Dashain and Tihar festivals) and around March–April. In these windows, the best lakeside rooms go weeks in advance. During monsoon (June–September) you can negotiate excellent walk-in rates — see when to visit Nepal.

Pairing Your Stay

Most travellers use Pokhara as the gateway to the Annapurna region. If you're trekking, many hotels will store your main luggage free while you're on the trail — confirm before you book. For ideas on filling rest days, see things to do in Pokhara and short hikes near Pokhara.
